Cucumber (Vellarika) Pachadi

Pachadi is a very traditional sauce prepared in kerala mainly during festivals like Onam, Vishu and feasts marking some occasions. Very simple, easy to prepare and delicious vegetarian side dish


Preparation

  1. Dice the cucumber
  2. Grind the coconut, green chilly and mustard to paste
  3. Whip the Curd (yogurt), Preferably slightly soar, and add to the ground mix

Cooking method

  1. To a frying pan or earthen pot add cucumber, some salt and sufficient water to cook.
  2. Allow the cucumber to boil for about 10 minutes till it becomes soft.
  3. Now add the Curd (Yogurt) Coconut mix and boil it for about a minute till small bubbles are visible.
  4. Spread come curry leaves and take the gravy pan off the flame
Seasoning
  1.  Heat oil in a pan, add mustard and as it blisters add red chilly and stir it for less than a minute.
  2. Add the seasoning to the gravy and your simple curd based curry is now ready to serve
